Nightmare Frontier 1.0 Release Notes Guide

Full Nightmare Frontier 1.0 changelog: July 22 2026 launch, $24.99 price, save wipe, legacy branch, narrative rewrite, Docks Overboard, Horror Status, loadout Transfer/Swap, multi-level upgrades, and LoS/LoF clarity.

Last updated:

Nightmare Frontier left Early Access on July 22, 2026, with a base price of $24.99 reflecting the complete release package. This page is the full 1.0 changelog Scavengers need—not a teaser. If you still play from muscle memory forged before launch week, start here before any District push.

Watch the launch transition

Official channels framed the move from beta story to paid release. Treat this as the historical marker for everything below.

Save wipe and legacy branch

1.0 wiped saves. Pre-1.0 Early Access progress does not carry forward on the main branch. Publisher communications also kept a legacy EA branch temporarily so players could finish old runs without pretending those saves belonged to the new ruleset.

Accept the wipe. Rebuild roster, Compound trees, and Fear habits from scratch. Outdated EA economy screenshots will lie to you.

Narrative rewrite

Publisher notes described a drastically rewritten narrative for richer lore and clearer campaign stakes. Quest beats, Ringleader paperwork, and District flavor text shifted enough that old walkthrough sequencing may feel unfamiliar even when combat verbs match. Pair story reorientation with How to Play and the Walkthrough.

Headline 1.0 content package

  • 16 Fears and enemies
  • 80+ upgradable items with multi-level upgrades on many blueprint paths
  • 30+ interactables and hazards
  • 4 classes
  • 4 Compound unlock trees
  • 4 Districts
  • 8 unique tactical objectives
  • Endless procedural nightmare wrapper

Docks art overhaul and Overboard

The Docks District received a full art overhaul in 1.0—lighting, textures, and prop readability tuned for pier combat. It also introduced Overboard: push a Scavenger into the sea and they are instantly defeated with no recovery turn.

Overboard turns shove lines into roster deletes. Read the full pier guide at Docks & Overboard, then cross-check routing habits in Districts & Map.

Horror Status and Susceptibilities

Attacking a Fear-born Dreadweaver now applies Horror Status: +1 Nightmare Pressure per turn until you kill any Dreadweaver on the board. Slow chip damage under Horror is how “safe” raids accidentally climb two Nightmare Levels.

1.0 also surfaced Susceptibilities on many Fear-born targets—commonly Burning, Plague, Push, and Ranged—so loadouts can answer specific Dreadweaver families instead of raw DPS prayer. Full combat workflow: Horror Status guide. Bestiary context: Dreadweavers and Fears overview.

Loadout Transfer, Swap, and multi-level upgrades

Hideout logistics grew up in 1.0:

  • Transfer moves or copies a kit between Scavengers
  • Swap exchanges two Scavengers’ loadouts in one action
  • Multi-level upgrades let the same item climb several tiers instead of one binary unlock

Details and weekly prep checklist: Loadout Transfer & Swap. Fund tiers through Compounds & crafting and bank parts at the Hideout.

Line of sight and line of fire clarity

Combat readability passes improved line of sight (LoS) and line of fire (LoF) feedback so deterministic gun puzzles feel fair instead of opaque. Cover edges, elevation, and blocked lanes communicate more consistently—especially important when pairing Ricochet angles (Combat & Ricochet) with new Horror timing pressure.

Twisted Prosperity DNA

Several 1.0 verbs debuted earlier in the June 4, 2026 Twisted Prosperity patch—Deadwood stillness punishment and handgun Ricochet off metal interactables. That update foreshadowed launch systems documented here. Patch history: Twisted Prosperity. Forest nightmare deep dive: Deadwood.

What to relearn first after migration

  1. Fear-gated farming (How to get trophies)
  2. Ricochet and hazard sequencing (Combat & Ricochet)
  3. Nightmare Level climbs (Nightmare Levels)
  4. Horror clears and susceptibility loadouts (Horror Status)
  5. Docks positioning and Overboard edges (Docks & Overboard)
  6. Transfer/Swap roster prep (Loadout Transfer)

Post-launch expectations

Roadmap language around launch mentioned future DLC direction. Treat roadmaps as intent, not contract. Confirm your PC against System Requirements and read the broader Review for whether 1.0’s fantasy is worth today’s price.

1.0 is not the end of the City. It is the moment Nightmare Frontier started charging full price for courage—and sent invoices for every Fear you invite.
